Google creates new Pro-Android Campaign to Better Compete with Apple's iPhone & Keep Samsung In Line

A new report posted today claims that Google wants to take a run at Apple's iPhone with a new line of smartphones called "Silver" that's really just killing off the Nexus branding for something that they could market better. The plan is also a part of a backup plan should Samsung decide to push their Tizen platform against Android.

The Information news site claims that they have the exclusive on Google's new plan. The Information is reporting that "Google is gearing up for a major effort to spur development of premium Android smartphones and re-assert control over the Android ecosystem as it seeks to better compete with the Apple iPhone and blunt the growing power of Samsung, the leading maker of Android phones.

The expensive effort involves dumping the four-year-old Google Nexus phone brand in favor of a new program called Silver, under which manufacturers and wireless carriers will effectively be paid to produce and sell high-end devices that closely adhere to Google specifications, according to four people briefed on the project. The requirements sharply limit the number of non-Google apps that can be pre-installed on devices, or mandate that phone owners be able to uninstall them.

The report notes that Google could spend as a billion dollars to support pro-Android OEM's. What would set Silver apart from normal Android is that Google would limit the number of third party apps and services included on the device, hinting that these phones will run the pure version of Android. Most popular Android smartphone makers, such as Samsung and HTC, put their own skin that focuses on their proprietary apps over Android. The deal is so good that even Samsung may join the program.

Efrati further states that "Google's main goals are to reverse consumer perceptions of Android as a down-market knock-off of the iPhone and establish a more consistent 'Google' experience for high-end Android customers."

Though there's one last point that might be the real motivator behind Google's new plan: "Google is worried that Samsung is taking over Android, pushing it in directions Google doesn't want to go. Silver would be part of a plant to reclaim the platform."

After years of Samsung toying with Tizen and experiencing a major setback in January with NTT DoCoMo, Samsung revealed earlier this month that their first Tizen phone, which will launch around the end of the second quarter, would be a high-end model and the second would mainly be aimed at the middle of the market to drive volume growth.

Is Google a little jittery about the prospect of Samsung drifting away from the Android ecosystem and pushing their own Tizen based smartphones over time? Yes of course they are and this is proof enough.

Concept Video Surfaces showing iPhone 6 with iOS 8 Features

iOS 8 is coming. With a host of new features tipped, including alleged support for an iWatch, could Apple be set to reveal an OS perfectly tailored for the iPhone 6?

A new concept video created by TechRadar illustrates a compilation of rumored ideas that might make their way to the next iPhone 6 running iOS 8. The video illustrates such rumored ideas as the new Healthbook app, Notification Center and other concepts such as the new DriveMode patent idea and a new Shazam feature that would be better served as a CarPlay feature.

How to Convert TiVo recordings to MP4 on Windows 8.1 or Mavericks?

What is Tivo?

To put it simply, TiVo is like a VCR on steroids. Also called a personal video recorder (or PVR) or digital video recorder (DVR), TiVo is a electronic filled box you connect to your cable TV. Inside is a hard drive, just like in a computer, that stores dozens or hundreds of hours of TV programming. But instead of complicated VCR programming that no one actually uses, Tivo comes with a spectacularly simple software interface you control through a handy remote control.

How to play Tivo files?

If you're frequent traveler, a question may come up like this - How can I get my TiVo shows remotely with my Android tablet or iPad? Currently there's not yet a good solution for wirelessly play TiVo shows remotely, but here's a way to transfer TiVo shows to your PC and then convert the .tivo files to MP4 video for Android Tablet or iPad viewing on the go, so that you can easily take favorite TV shows when away from home.

How to upload Tivo files?

You many want to enjoy Tivo shows at home and sharing with family or friends. But the Tivo files are saved by digital video recorders with copyright protection, so it would be difficult to playback or sharing on YouTube. In this case, you need to change tivo to mp4 format for better uploading process.

How to edit Tivo files?

My brother has a tivo 2 series and just learned to use tivo to go to move the files to his windows system. But he said he didn't know how to convert .tivo to .mp4 which is what his pinnacle software likes, so he can pull tivo the files directly. So back to the great idea —— converting .tivo to .mp4 for editing tivo files more conveniently.

How to burn Tivo files?

Or if you want to burn tivo files etc., you are also suggested to do tivo to mp4 conversion.

So to get Tivo files worked, in other words, to enjoy, play, share, edit and burn tivo freely, the only solution is to convert Tivo files to MP4, so you can deal with Tivo files in these MP4-compatible apps sucessfully.

To accomplish this, Pavtube Tivo to MP4 Converter is of great help. It supports converting any audio & video format, but mostly I use to convert TiVo video (TV shows and movies) for Personal use. The GUI was much easier to use and had more features. It works fine with reat video quality and it successfully and directly lets me convert Tivo to any popular app or device.

For Mac users, Tivo to MP4 Converter for Mac is recommended to you.

Now get it installed and let's start to quick convert Tivo to MP4 on PC with perfect videoaudio sync technology.

Step One. Transfer the Tivo files to PC.

Although the TiVo Desktop software for the Mac (supplied by TiVo) does not allow user to transfer TiVo recordings to Mac, you can transfer TiVo to Mac MacBook with specific software as long as your TiVo box is connected to your home network. Once you've recorded your favorite shows on your TiVo box, freeware like the TiVoDecode Manager can accomplish this task for you.

Step Two. Launch this Tivo Video Converter.

Click the top left icon to import your tivo files.

It will pop up a window to remind you submit the tivo key. Click Ok and enter your tivo media key.

Here is a easy way to trim out commercial ads in tivo click the pencil-like icon on the top, switch to "Trim", you will be able to set up and start and end point easily.

Step Three. Click the "Format" and choose proper presets for MP4 playbacl.

You can see profiles for iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple TV and you can choose one according to your device model.

And there are many presets in "Andoroid" column, you can use the search box on bottom right corn and locate proper mp4 presets for your own phonetablet model.

For users who want to upload to YouTube, you are suggested to choose Common VideoMPEG-4 Movie(.mp4)

You can also click "Settings" (which is marked as "3" above) to customize video size, bitrate(quality), frame rate and other settings.

Pls note that the higher bitrate you choose, the better video quality you will get.

Step Four. Click the big red "Convert" to start converting Tivo files to MP4 that suites for playback, sharing, editing and burning. Wait for moments and click "Open" to locate the converted video.

How to Play Lossless FLAC Audio Files on iTunes, iPhone, iPod, iPad?

This article will introduce a step by step guide on how to play lossless FLAC audio files on iPod, iPhone, iPad, iTunes in lossless with the help of the powerful FLAC Converter Mac or Windows app.

Do you know FLAC audio format? Even though storing audio files in a FLAC container would take up a bit more space, as the free lossless audio codec, FLAC is favored by many audiophiles who prefer the high quality of sound. However, this audio format can not be supported by any of the apple products like iPod, iTunes, iPad, iPhone.

Both iTunes and iOS devices support several digital audio file formats, including AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless. The first two are lossy, compressed formats (providing for small files), while the next two are uncompressed formats (resulting in huge files). The last, Apple Lossless, is a compressed-yet-lossless format. It falls somewhere in between in terms of file size, but doesn’t sacrifice sonic quality in the process (although debates rage about how much difference it makes).

In order to solve "iTunes and iOS devices won't import FLAC" problem, I've tried several ways including convert FLAC to MP3/M4A format via iTunes.

To perform this conversion, you just need a powerful FLAC Audio Converter app as assistant. Pavtube FLAC Converter is a ideal tool. It can easily convert FLAC audio files to MP3, M4A, AAC, M4R, MKA, OGG, WMA, WAV, DTS remux to play FLAC on iPhone, iPad, iTunes, iPod, Quicktime, iMovie, FCP, FCE, Windows Media Player, etc.

More than a simple converter, this app can effortlessly let you enjoy any movie on your iPad, iPhone, and many other portable devices. Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate is an all-in-one solution to backup Blu-ray/DVD movies, convert disc content and transcode common videos. It could 1:1 backup Blu-ray/DVD movies from disc to PC hard drive for disc burning and ISO image creating.

Being a professional video converter, it could convert Blu-ray, DVD and various videos to almost all popular and hot video and audio formats like AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV, RMVB, MPEG, 3GP, MKV, MP3, AAC, etc. Besides, it allows for video editing tools including trimming, cropping, splitting, attaching srt/ass/ssa subtitles and special effects to add more fun when watching movies and videos.

How to convert FLAC audio files to iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes supported formats?

Step 1. Import FLAC files; choose format.

Click the plus icon to import FLAC files into it, or you can drag-and-drop directly. Then you will find a horn icon on the left that indicates it's an audio file.

Move your cursor to Format and choose "Common Audio>MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio(*.mp3)" or "M4A - MPEG-4 Audio(*.m4a)" as below:

As listed above, there are several presets for other audio format; just choose one as your needs.

Step 2. Adjust audio specs (optional).

If you are not satisfied with the default audio quality, just click the "Settings" icon and choose wanted audio settings including sample rate, bitrate and audio channel.

Step 3. Start converting FLAC to MP3/M4A.

Now back to the main interface and hit "Convert" to convert your FLAC audio files to MP3/M4A format. It will start batch conversion automatically one by one. Wait for a while during the progress; after it completed, click "Open output folder" to locate the converted audio file.

Start iTunes, then drag and drop the converted audio file to your iTunes Music Library for syncing to iPod, uPad, iPhone for playing.

Conclusion

With the above software and step by step guide, Apple fans can easily enjoy lossless or lossy FLAC on iPod/iPhone/iPad on the go. Besides you can also play FLAC on iTunes/QuickTime/Windows Media Player/iMovie and more. Wait no more, just free download this powerful FLAC Converter to have a free try.

How to get an App Store refund for kids' accidental in-app purchases?

If your kids have racked up some exorbitant in-app purchases from the App Store without your knowledge, you can get a refund from Apple with a few easy steps.

In-app purchases have become a thorny issue for customers in Apple's ecosystem. Earlier this year, Cupertino settled with the United States Federal Trade Commission over incidents where minors made in-app purchases—in some cases exorbitant ones—without the knowledge of their parents.

But if you (or someone you know) has been bitten by one of these inadvertent purchases, how can you go about recouping your money? If visions of paperwork and annoying forms are swimming before your eyes, don't sweat it: Apple's made it pretty easy to put in your request without even leaving your computer.

Chances are you've probably received an email from Apple explaining the steps you need to take, but just in case you've misplaced that email or want a little more detailed explanation, here's a rundown of what you need to do.

Find your receipts

No, not that mound of papers that's probably strewn across your desk—your electronic receipts! There are two ways to do this:

Via Email
Your iTunes account should be associated with an email address. You can search your mailbox for "iTunes Store" or, if you'd like to narrow it down a little further, by email address: the iTunes Store's receipts all come from the do_not_reply@itunes.com. You should then be able to sort through those to find the ones you want. As a shortcut, the bottom of each email also has a link to your Purchase History, which you can click to be taken directly to that section of the iTunes Store.

To submit a request, you'll need the order number, which you can find in the top right of the email, after "Order ID."

To submit a refund request you'll need your order number, shown here in an email receipt.

Via the iTunes Store
If you've been deleting those receipts to clean out your inbox, that's okay: You can get access to your entire purchase history on the iTunes Store on your Mac and PC.

Launch iTunes and select the iTunes Store. Click the button in the top left corner that displays your Apple ID and choose Account from the drop-down menu. You'll be prompted to enter your password for security reasons, and then shown your account page. Scrolling down will reveal a sub-section called “Purchase History.” Click on the See All link to the right to get a full list.

Click on the See All link in your iTunes account page to view your entire purchase history.

While you can't easily search your order history (using email may be a better bet for that), you can page back through your requests or jump to a specific month and year. Each entry lists the order date, order number, titles purchased, and price. For each unauthorized purchase, you'll need the order number; if the whole number isn't visible from this table (i.e. if there's an ellipsis at the end of it), you'll need to click the arrow to the left of the entry to view that record and get the full order number.

iTunes keeps a record of all of your purchases. Clicking on the arrow next to any of them will let you view the order's details.

Submit a request

Now that you've got access to your purchase history, you just need to submit a request for the unauthorized purchases. Apple's set up a form for this process that helps generate a support request.

Fill out the form with the relevant details to submit your refund request.

Upon visiting that link, you'll want to click the button for Email, which will take you to a form where you enter your contact information as well as the specific details. Find the order number for the unauthorized purchase and enter it in the relevant field. (If you have multiple unauthorized in-app purchases, you might need to complete more than one of these requests.)

In the detail section, enter “Refund for In-App Purchases made by a minor,” then submit the request. Apple should let you know—hopefully pretty quickly—the status of your refund.

Preventing future unauthorized purchases

Despite the ease of submitting these requests, you'd probably prefer avoiding having to do this again—and Apple would likely rather not have to refund a whole bunch of purchases again. That's why the company's rolled out a couple of options to make it harder for kids (or us unwitting adults) to accidentally make in-app purchases, all with only a couple steps.

To avoid future unauthorized purchases, make sure the Require Password option in Settings > General > Restrictions is set to 'Immediately.'

If you're regularly handing over your device to a kid, you'll want to enable parental restrictions, and either turn off In-App Purchases altogether or scroll down to Require Password and select 'Immediately.' That eliminates the occasionally troublesome 15-minute window where, after you make one purchase, subsequent purchases can be made without re-entering your password. It might be more annoying for you, but it could also save you some hassle down the line.

Apple Opens OS X Betas to General Users for Free with New Seed Program

For all of Apple's strengths, it's usually not a company that's associated with letting us do things for free. Judging from last year's news about OS X Mavericks and the followup news about the iWork suite, that may be changing. Indeed, as The Loop reports, Apple is apparently even introducing an beta program for OS X that'll let non-developers see the builds for Apple's signature desktop operating system before they're released to the public.

Up until recently, discovering what waited in store in the next iteration of OS X required a developer account costing $99 per year. Now, however, average users can apply to join the OS X Beta Seed Program, which will let you download pre-release versions of OS X via the Updates panel in the Mac App Store.

The only catch is that you'll have to sign a confidentiality agreement, which prevents you from sharing, publishing, or disseminating information about the beta to anyone who's not enrolled in the program. You'll then be asked to download a backup for your Mac and then download a Beta Access Utility App that ensures that the Mac App Store will list the newest beta updates.

All you need to sign up is your Apple ID, which you enter on the new "Appleseed" web site. Keep in mind, though, that betas are usually unstable by definition, and running them brings a real risk of causing problems you wouldn't have otherwise experienced on your Mac.

Xbox One/PS4/PC game Lords of the Fallen gets a new trailer

LORDS of the FALLEN is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC this Fall 2014! Check out this new trailer for Namco's upcoming role-playing game.

Namco Bandai today released a new trailer for its upcoming role-playing game Lords of the Fallen, coming this fall to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The "Challenge" trailer shows off the Champion Lord taking on a hulking, armored beast. You can probably guess how it ends…"Deal the pain. Never stop," Namco says.

Lords of the Fallen is a third-person action role-playing game from Deck13 and CI Games. It may bear a resemblance to the Dark Souls series, but its developers think it stands apart.

The Champion Lord has always been a bit different from other commanders of the Fallen God's demonic army. For them, it was all about honor and discipline. For the Champion it was all about the intensity of a duel and the bloodthirsty satisfaction from defeating an opponent. Where other Lords would respectfully circle around their opponent, the easily enraged Champion will charge right into the fray with his pure brute force. He always likes to get his hands dirty, so his weapons of choice need to be close to his body, allowing him to smell the blood of his victims. Of course, at close range, his boiling bloodlust and reckless charges don't leave him much in terms of defense, but who would stand against a hulking brute like him? You?

Apple Stores and corporate campus to celebrate 2014 Earth Day

Apple's brick-and-mortar stores in the United States and around the world will celebrate the upcoming Earth Day next Tuesday, April 22. According to a new report Thursday, Apple's Cupertino, California campus will also join the celebration with a major internal event on April 22 focused on 2014 Earth Day.

This year's Earth Day, prefixed with Green Cities, is focused on environment-friendly buildings, transportation and cities. Apple Stores will change their logo color to green to mark the occasion. More info right after the break…

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, employees of certain Apple retail stores will be given new Earth Day T-shirts to wear on April 22, according to multiple Apple employees who spoke to the blogger.
Apple will be honoring Earth Day in its retail stores across the world by covering the Apple Store logos with green. There have also been indications that employees of some stores will be given new Earth Day shirts to wear on April 22.
As for Apple's main campus, employees say that a large-scale internal event will be held in the afternoon of April 22 and the likely focus is Earth Day.
In a similar vein, the company observed the World AIDS day by changing its logo in retail stores to a red color.

Back in 2006, the iPhone maker celebrated Earth Day by launching a computer take-back program, an expansion of the firm's ongoing recycling program, where US customers who bought a new Mac from Apple received free shipping and environmentally friendly disposal of their old computer.
